Dare #16 - B&W with a colour POP - Trina

What a cool dare! I had so much fun doing this.

I'll be the first to admit to feeling a little uncertain about it. I normally like COLOUR. Lots of colour. So to just have one, was a real challenge. But, I've gotta say I really love how all the LO's look. The single colour REALLY does make the LO POP! Thanks so much to Jo for this dare.

If you haven't already done yours, then go grab some black and white bazill and get going! There is a very cool prize pack to win, as supplied by the generous team at Cherryarte!

Talking of Cherryarte, those paisleys on my LO are from the midnight rouge paisley seams Cherryarte PP. Way cool stuff!

Once you've done your LO, then send it through to Lianne at: RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz

C'mon, I dare you!

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Trina.

Dare # 16 - Lianne

This is a very cool dare. It is fun adding just the one colour to the black and white because it really does 'pop'. So obviously I chose this tealy blue colour as my colour pop and I'm loving the old pipe cleaners a la Kim Henkel again. Can't wait to do her class at Freestyle.
OK guys have a go at this fun dare cause there's a very cool prize from CherryArte for the winner. Hey did you see I linked their website through their logo. Another thing I learnt this week. Didn't know you could hyperlink through a picture.

Dare 16 - Andrea

Hey everyone, here's my layout for this week's dare.
I went with a white background and took the colour from the edge of the tshirt my daughter is wearing. I just had to scrap these photos - they were too cute! What was even more amazing was that she sat still for the photo!

The red background is done using some fab photoshop brushes from Jason Gaylor - love those. And the title is done with stamps by Fontwerks and K&Co.

So are you up for the challenge? Can't wait to see some awesome dares! Remember to leave a comment on this post with a link to your dare or email to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wed 28th February, 6pm.

Dare 16 - Black & White with a colour pop -Faye

I have been waiting to scrap these photos and here was the perfect chance. This kiwi bloke is a sculpture in Katikati. So lifelike we just had to have photos taken with him. We were not the only ones, there was a steady stream of tourists.

Even more incredible is that this dare is sponsored by Cherry Arte because most of the product used on my layout is Cherry Arte some of it through the generosity of one of the DT, Maxine Hazebroek. A while back I had admired a layout she did and she was kind enough to stamp and mail to me all the little flowers that you see on this layout. They are Cherry Arte stamps and way cool. The chipboard letters are also Cherry Arte. I had no idea when I was creating the layout that the sponsor was going to be Cheery Arte. Even more amazing is that Max had said to me "what colour flowers do you want" and I just casually answered "green". Now several months down the track, perfect!!

So come on, give it a go, it was great fun - and send your layout to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 28th February 6pm or you can share your layout by leaving a link in the comments on Jo's original post. Another awesome dare! And an awesome prize too!

Dare 16 = B&W with a colour POP! - Yolande

Here is my take... Loved this pic of my DD and newphew at a park on our summer holiday. They were reading the graffiti (bad words and all!!) I had the idea when I printed it but needed something... Black and white with a colour POP! Was it! I have used the blue paint in the photo as my pop colour. Learnt how to do graffiti writing thanks to my lovely friend Michelle. No-one wanted there cellphone number on my layout but there are some special messages in the graffiti. Graffiti writing is more addictive than doodling. I couldn't stop!

So I dare you to try!
Please send your layout to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 28th February 6pm or you can share your layout by leaving a link in the comments on Jo's original post. Another awesome dare! And an awesome prize too!

Dare #16

This dare really blew me out of my little colourful comfort zone!

Especially when I discovered I had no black and white pattern paper whatsoever!!

So I turned to my favourite comic strip 'Calvin and Hobbes' for help...along with pens, stamps and some red felt fabric for the hearts.

Love the way this technique really makes the photos 'pop' out though....are you daring enough to give it a go?

Email your layout to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 28th February 6pm and don't forget you can share your layout by leaving a link in the comments on Jo's original post.

Dare # 16 sponsor - CherryArte

I'd just like to mention that this fortnights dare is sponsored by CherryArte. The winner will receive a pack of the latest releases from CherryArte.

Wahoo, fantastic Lu, thank you for sponsoring Dare # 16.

Dare 16 -Black White with Colour Pop - Megan

Here is my layout interpreting this very cool dare.
I enjoyed just using one colour to pop, and my mum has painted her toe nails red like this for years.

Have a go at this one, see what you can come up with.

Dare #16 - Black and White Colour Pop - Wendy RB

I had so much fun doing this one - and I bet some of you are thinking by now I have an obsession for coffee! Guess I kinda have LOL! This photo of a cup of coffee I took some time ago and used it on a layout for Memory Makers Masters - can't be a bad photo as that year I made it into the top 50 - the cup in real life is actually yellow but yellow just was not a happening colour for me so I altered it - the photo that is not the actual cup. The pink just pops right off the page with the black and white backdrop. Notice also that I have used very little in the way of stuff on this page - making it really economical to product - a bit of cardstock, warehouse tissue paper stamped, white pen, a scrap of tule material, and a few old buttons. Easy peasy!!! but still effextive.
So are you up for the challenge? Come on "I DARE YOU". Remember to leave a comment on this post with a link to your dare or email to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wed 28th February, 6pm.

Dare # 15 - Slide Show

Back to Dare 16: Black, White and a Colour Pop - Lesley

This is such a cool dare. This photo was perfect with my son wearing a black shirt with the bright orange on it so it made it easy to choose orange as my pop colour. I used a circle doodle template to create the black and white marker circles as a frame around the photo.
The dare is black and white with a colour pop so are you up for the challenge? Come on "I DARE YOU". Remember to leave a comment on this post with a link to your dare or email to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wed 28th February, 6pm.

Dare 16 - Black and White with a "Colour Pop"

Monique will be posting the dare 15 winner tomorrow but in the meantime are you ready to get cracking with another dare? Here we go then...

Ever noticed that when you use black or white or both in your background papers/photo mats it makes the colours in your layout just jump right out and pop off the page? It is a look that is becoming increasingly popular, and we have chosen that technique as this fortnight's dare. There is a twist though...you can only use one other colour with black and white, hence the name of the dare "Black and white with a colour pop." By using just one colour you will notice how it emphasises that colour in your photo, drawing the eye back to your photo to make it the important part of your layout. Your photo can be black and white with one other colour or in colour but your layout itself must only be in black and white and one other colour.

In my layout I have chosen to use pink as my 'pop' colour. Notice how it really makes the girls tops stand out in my photo and makes traditionally 'ungirly' elements look feminine and softens the layout while the black and white gives an uncluttered 'clean' look. Wait till you see what other gorgeous colours the kiwidaredevils have come up with to use as their pop colours and the wonderful effects that have been created in their layouts.

So are you up for the challenge? Come on "I DARE YOU". Remember to leave a comment on this post with a link to your dare or email to RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wed 28th February, 6pm.

Newsflash....Dare #15 results delayed...

Well there I was all ready to post the results of Dare 15 when we discovered that the email address posted on my dare has a spelling booboo and someone was unable to enter their layout on time so we are extending the deadline until tomorrow (Friday) 6pm just in case anybody else was in the same situation.

Please accept my apologies for any frustration you might have felt trying to email your layout and for keeping the rest of you in suspense a bit longer (hee, hee) but it would be unfair for somebody to miss out because of a silly mistake... Go easy I am a Kiwi Daredevil newbie!!

The address as it should be is RANDLGRAY@xtra.co.nz

Thanks
Monique

Dare 15: Hot and Cold

Admittedly I was going to sit this dare out yet again. I was busy with other stuff and life in general seemed to have taken over most of my precious scrapping time. But then I realised that this layout that I created for one of my DT's actually fit this theme so was pleased I could contribute again.

You know how graffiti is actually regarded as undesirable on buildings and fences? I had never really given it much notice either, until for some reason I suddenly noticed for the first time the graffiti on one of the walls of my local swimming pool and saw the huge potential this kind of street art has to serve as inspiration for a layout. So 'what's not' suddenly became quite hot!

I took a piece of grey cardstock to mimic the idea of a cold concrete wall and let loose with paint. Added some chipboard pieces (still very much a 'hot' product), some letter stickers I've had in my stash for ages (I never use stickers anymore) and a silhouetted picture (how (c)old is that technique?lol) of my girl dressed up as her version of a super hero. And there you have it:

Thanks to Meg at Scrapbook Essentials we'll have another wonderful price for this dare. Please leave a comment on Moniques post with a link to your dare and/or email to RANDYLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 14th February, 6pm.

Dare 15 - Lesley

You know in magazines how they often have whats HOT and whats NOT columns. Well that is how I translated this dare - my likes and dislikes. I have used a combo of hot / cold colours to reinforce the theme.

Loving all the different takes on this dare and cant wait to see what you come up with. I dare you to!

Dare # 15 Hot/Cold - Megan

Hot and cold, new and old products - great inspiration from Monique. I had to go for the new/old products thing because I have sooo many 'old products' I can't seem to part with. I also was inspired by the way Monique used an old technique of paper tearing as well, I love using this technique, no measuring, just go for it.

Old Products and techniques used
  • Making Memories vintage small rose crackled paper
  • Making Memories vintage large rose crackled paper
  • Paper Pizazz vellum
  • ?Stamp-It real life patt paper - Sand (one of the first pp I ever brought 2001)
  • Micro beads
  • Tearing technique

New Products and techniques used
  • Bling - Sequins and Beads
  • Flocked chipboard Lil Davis
  • Swirly doodle thingies
  • Cutting flowers out from patt paper.

This dare was heaps of fun, great to mix old and new techniques and use of some of those old products we all have.

Funk up your old stuff - I Dare Ya

Dare #15 {HOT/COLD} - Yolande

Just loved this dare Monique!
When I think of HOT and COLD - I think of sunshine and the song I often sing to my kids... you are my sunshine. Contrast sunshine in the black of the night and you have a hot/cold thing. This oversized photo doesn't show much but the similarities of myself that I see in my daughter so it was a great opportunity to scrap this. Pulled out some scraps of yellow/orange cardstock, some old buttons and some orange/yellow eyelets too! I found some old printed ribbon and teamed it up with some yellow handstitching to funk it up a little!
I hope this inspires you to give this dare a go... and if not to at least enjoy that sunshine that seems to be on and off at the moment. It will arrive in force come Wednesday when school goes back - can promise ya that!
Enjoy
Thanks to Meg at Scrapbook Essentials for sponsoring this dare. Can't wait to see all your entries. Remember to leave a comment on Moniques post with a link to your dare and/or email to RANDYLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 14th February, 6pm.

Dare 15 - Jo

Wow had a lot of fun with this one, used up some photos I have been meaning to scrap for ages and revisited some old song lyrics. Monique's dare had me a bit stumped for a little while, especially after seeing Wendy's very clever take on it (wish I'd thought of that, 'cept mine would have been wine not gin Wendy!) so I decided to google hot and cold, and lo and behold up popped the lyrics to that good old Billy Joel song "it's still rock n roll to me". The lyrics go, "hot funk, cold punk, even if it's old junk it's still rock and roll to me." Well you wouldn't believe the ideas that were spinning through my head then! So these photos of the different styles of my daughter Sarah just seemed to fit the lyrics and after that the layout came together pretty easily. As you can see I have used a combination of hot colours - yellow, hot pink, orange, and cold colours - green, blue. The hot and cold theme is also there in the combination of old lyrics (cold) with hot new scrapbooking products (I especially love these journalling stamps and the pink martini papers) and techniques (digital photo altering). And of course the song lyrics themselves have a hot/cold theme.

What other inspirations come to mind with this inspiring hot/cold dare?...I am looking forward to seeing your efforts.

Go on...dare ya!

Dare 15 - Lianne

This was fun!! I was so pleased at how easily this came together for me, which dosen't happen often. I used the Hot/Cold theme in 2 ways - Hot Pink and Cold Grey/Silver for colour and Pink felt and Pink hessian AND silvery metal for texture. I was going to use the black and white version of this photo, but I threw the colour one on to see what it looked like and was rapt to see it went perfectly. I used the beautifier filter on the photo that Jo told us about in the last dare.
Thanks for the cool dare Monique. Have a go guys and leave a comment on Moniques post with a link to your dare and/or email to RANDYLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 14th February, 6pm.

And thanks Meg at Scrapbook Essentials for sponsoring this dare.
Can't wait to see your dares this time.

Dare 15 Hot / Cold - Wendy Redshaw

Wow what a dare - had me thinking, but did not really need to look too far for inspiration as I sat one morning with a yummy hot coffee, well that was the hot bit sorted but what for the cold again -just think drink - nothing better than an ice cold Gin and Tonic with a slice of lemon and of course ice. I then kinda hat the opposite thing happening with am. and pm. etc etc. and of course hot and cold colours which was half luck as my fav. coffee cup has heaps of red in it and the best gin in the world comes in a blue bottle - well what luck I thought. So as a result here is my take on the dare - have fun with yours.
This weeks dare is kindly sposored by Meg at Scrapbook Essentials so get your thinking caps on and go for it - we Dare you!!!!

Are you ready for Dare #15!

In celebration of Summer we dare you to combine Hot and Cold elements on your page...inspired by warm sunkissed skin diving into delicious cold water, sizzling bbqs and the cool clink of ice cubes into a glass...are you getting the picture?

This is totally open to your own interpretation and creativity... you might translate it into your colour combination like I did mixing hot orange and reds with cool blues and white....you might choose a hot 'latest' product/technique to use with a more dated 'cool' one.

I chose to heat up my page with some star and birdie dingbats produced by a favourite 'hot' scrapbook artist Tia Bennett and added some revived cool with a journalling box and a speech bubble! I looked back at some of my older layouts to see what I thought was popular then and saw 'torn edges' featured in many (yes I've been scrapbooking for that long lol!), obviously a hot technique which cooled off, so for fun I added a touch of torn pattern paper...

The circles certainly got you creating...have you checked out the slide show?... now lets see what you can sizzle up for this one..."I DARE YOU"...Remember to leave a comment on this post with a link to your dare and/or email to RANDYLGRAY@xtra.co.nz (100kb or less) by Wednesday 14th February, 6pm.
